FONTS

If you are using white text on a colored background, please avoid using skinny fonts and thin serifs, and make sure the text size is larger than 10 points.

  1. If you need your text to be bold or italicized, please select that version from your font list, not from the style menu.
  2. Please do not use fonts with licensing restrictions.
  3. In order to print your text correctly, we will need you to send us both the printer font and the screen font. These should be e-mailed to Operations Manager Michael Strom at mstrom@studentpaths.com, or put on a CD and mailed to Student Paths, 2595 Hamline Ave. N., Roseville, MN, 55113.

COLORS & FORMAT

  1. Our method of printing adds a 30 percent dot gain (i.e., a 70 percent black will turn 100 percent black). Please keep this in mind when creating your ad.
  2. We run colors in CMYK. All embedded graphics and Pantone colors should be converted to CMYK.
  3. If your ad is black and white only, please use grayscale imaging.
  4. Please do not bleed colors.
  5. Please do not use four-color type. Black type should be 100 percent black value (K) and 0 percent other color values (C, M and Y).
  6. Please do not use white or colored type that is smaller than 10 points in size.
  7. Picture boxes should be created with a “white” background, rather than “none.”
  8. Build ads to trim.
  9. Please do not crop images in your layout program; rather, crop in PhotoShop.
  10. Lines and rules should be no smaller than .2 points.

IMAGES

  1. All color images should be 200 dpi, and all black and white line art images should be 600 dpi.
  2. All images should be CMYK, including images that are embedded.
  3. Avoid using images taken from the Web or created for Web use unless they were purchased as high-resolution images.
  4. If you are using PhotoShop, do not save images as DCS. Save as EPS, and do not check transfer functions, half-tone functions or embed color profiles.
  5. Please do not use OPI imaging.

SUBMITTING YOUR AD

  1. We accept ads as a PDFs, Quark files, InDesign files, PhotoShop files or PageMaker files. In addition to the ad itself, regardless if it is a PDF or program file, we also require all component files for your ad (fonts, images, graphics, etc.)
  2. You may send us your ad and components via e-mail or regular mail.
  3. If you choose to mail us your ad, please save it and all its component files on a CD and mail to Production Team, Student Paths, 2595 Hamline Ave. N., Roseville, MN 55113.
  4. If you choose to e-mail your ad, please send it and its component files to Operations Manager Michael Strom at mstrom@studentpaths.com. It is often helpful to stuff or zip your files, and send them together.

If you are e-mailing us a PDF ad along with your component files, please note the following guidelines:

  • Please embed all fonts.
  • Make sure your ad is centered and without crops or bleeds.
  • Please choose “print quality” specs. Do not use Web design settings.
  • Please do not use ICC profiles.
  • To create your PDF, rather than exporting as a PDF, please create a Postscript (PS) file and then distill in Adobe Acrobat. Please do not use Adobe PDF Writer.
  • Make sure there are no special permissions attached to your PDF, and please make sure none of the fonts in your PDF have licensing restrictions.
